How data-driven decisions benefit your projects

At Mainbrace, we’re using data to build smarter, greener, and more efficient projects – helping our clients reduce costs, improve sustainability, and drive better outcomes. From project planning to delivery, data plays a critical role in ensuring we make the best decisions for you.

Sophie, a key member of our Data team, is at the forefront of this innovation. We sat down with her to discuss why she is so passionate about her job and the data that is shaping the future of construction.

Data is playing a bigger role in construction than ever before. What excites you most about working with data in this industry?

The large volume of data in construction, from project costs and timelines to workforce planning and sustainability metrics, is incredible. What excites me most is the ability to transform this raw data into meaningful analysis that drives smarter decision making. By identifying patterns and trends, we can improve efficiency, reduce risks, and make more informed strategic choices that have a real impact on project success.

Can you share an example of how data has made a real impact on a project at Mainbrace?

One impactful example is using data to track headcount growth, gender diversity, and revenue forecast trends to support workforce planning. By analysing hiring patterns, turnover rates, and projected business growth, we can anticipate future resource needs and ensure we have the right skills in place. This data-driven approach not only helps with efficient workforce management but also contributes to our long-term diversity goals and overall business sustainability.

What attracted you to a career in data analytics, and how did you find your way into construction?

I’ve always loved problem solving with data. Learning how construction management works and how data improves project efficiency drew me in, and I enjoy turning complex data into valuable insights.

What do you think can be done to encourage more women to pursue careers in property data technology?

Showcasing the impact of data in construction: improving efficiency, reducing risks, and driving smarter decisions, can attract more women to the field. Providing mentorship, career pathways, and an inclusive workplace will also help grow female talent in data and tech.

If you could give one piece of career advice to young women considering a role in data or tech, what would it be?

Be curious and keep learning: technology and data are always changing. Believe in your skills and stay open to new challenges.
