MBA NSW Awards

Mainbrace recently enjoyed a very successful night at the Master Builders Association NSW Excellence in Construction Awards, taking home three awards for these winning projects:

  • 262 Liverpool Street
  • HomeCo Gregory Hills
  • Coles Schofields.

All of these projects commenced as Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), highlighting the advantages of ECI in generating the best possible outcomes for retail and industrial building projects.

Mainbrace Retail Construction’s winning projects

We were honoured to be recognised by our industry for the following:

Restoration/Adaptive Re-Use of a Historic Building Award in the $10-$50m category: 262 Liverpool Street

The 140-year-old building at 262 Liverpool Street, Darlinghurst was used as a school in 1883 and a church in 1927. Our redevelopment project involved the heritage conversion of this stunning building including incorporating a century-old pipe organ entombed in its structure which has been lovingly reimagined and restored. The site is now a boutique commercial office space for the Paul Ramsay Foundation. This restoration was completed in February 2022.

Collaborating through ECI, Mainbrace was able to value-engineer into the program a saving of $1.4m in costs and two weeks. This was despite the confines of working in a sensitive environment, both from a heritage and community perspective. This beautiful site is now known as Yirranma Place.

Extension: Retail Buildings: Refurbishment Award in the Open Price category for Stage 2 of Gregory Hills Town Centre

The main challenge for us with this project was its timing. HomeCo’s vision was that the Town Centre expansion, including the Aldi fit-out, be complete and open to the public 35 per cent faster than a project of this scale would ordinarily be ready – and in time for Christmas.

Mainbrace’s approach to ECI proved to be the difference that made realising this vision possible. We brought all parties together through the collaborative ECI process and devised a way to overlap and trim the construction process by 18 weeks. This process saved the client several hundred thousand dollars.

Retail Buildings – New Up To $50m Award: Coles Schofields Neighbourhood Shopping Centre

This project drew on Mainbrace’s deep historical data to provide a costing plan and develop a design to increase the project’s viability in line with the client’s budget.

Through our ECI service, we were able to rationalise the concept design without sacrificing NLA (net lettable area) to achieve the cost reduction required to proceed. As well as risk reduction, our process paved the way for a smooth construction program which saved eight weeks in timing and $5m in costs. The project was delivered in December 2021.

We are so proud and delighted to maintain our record as a premium award-winning builder and to be among the best builders in Sydney and beyond. Without the support of our valued clients, our success at the MBA NSW Awards would not have been possible. Thank you!
