The re-development of DFO Homebush included a new bulky goods retail level, ground level carpark and multi-storey carpark. As well as the refurbishment of the existing retail mall and tenancies, it included a complete services upgrade and associated external works. The works were undertaken in a live environment and The Centre continued to trade throughout the redevelopment works.
The project allowed The Centre to double the retail floor plate and added more than 1100 car spaces. This involved the creation of 22 new tenancies (all mini-majors) and the reconfiguring of 90 tenancies, the food court and amenities over 23 stages.
Time is a pivotal factor in any retail construction project, to ensure as little trading time is lost. Mainbrace was able to commit to a detailed staging program that meant The Centre could continue trading throughout the 37 stages of construction.
A new five level carpark was constructed in the tight confines at the rear of the site also whilst The Centre remained operational and trading.
