R U OK Day?
Supporting mental health awareness in construction
We’re deeply committed to fostering a supportive workplace culture, where mental health is prioritised alongside physical health & safety. Each year, and again this year, we proudly participate in two key industry initiatives: R U OK? Day and Mates in Construction Fly the Flag Week, which highlight the critical issue of mental health awareness and suicide prevention in our construction.
The statistics are sobering: 190 Australians in the construction industry lose their lives to suicide every year more than 1 every second day. Events like this raise awareness and aim to erode the stigma attached to men’s mental health.
This year’s theme is, “Ask RUOK? Any Day,” reminds us that we must be proactive in checking in with each other, not just on designated dates, but every day. Whether on-site or at home, personal challenges can impact anyone, and regular, open conversations can make a big difference.
On RUOK? day, every Mainbrace employee paused their work to reflect on the importance of mental health and engage in meaningful discussions. These sessions were dedicated to suicide awareness, recognising signs that someone might be struggling, and learning how to offer support to our colleagues, friends, and family members.
By making time for these conversations and participating in these initiatives, we are raising awareness and actively building a culture of care. Care is an important word in our culture. Caring on RUOK? day means every person is valued and supported, and together we ensure that no one in our industry feels like they have to face their challenges alone.
