A solid foundation
When James Clarke joined us as a Cadet in our Graduate Program in 2020, he wasn’t entirely sure what he’d signed himself up for. He soon discovered a highly structured program with rich learning opportunities, practical hands-on experience, and mentors who were invested in his success. Since then, James has swiftly risen through the ranks, and today is one of our valued Project Supervisors.
“I think Mainbrace’s graduate program is one of the best, based on conversations I’ve had with mates at other companies. It gives you an excellent platform for learning.
“When I first started, I didn’t know what the graduate program entailed or even what a Contract Administrator was at the time. All I knew was what an engineer was. But in the first few weeks of starting at Mainbrace, I was placed on-site at 262 Liverpool Street in Darlinghurst. It was an interesting experience. I learnt so much on that project, and I’ve been learning ever since. To me, that’s what it’s all about – to be a sponge and learn, learn, learn.
“At Darlinghurst, I worked under some excellent mentors who provided me with a great pool of opportunity to learn in. The depth of knowledge I was surrounded by assisted my journey to grow as a person and become better at what I did.
“That project went for about 18 months, and in that time, I transitioned from a Cadet to a Contract Administrator. I was then promoted to Project Supervisor through a project we did called Melito Place, which was the construction of a series of warehouses. I’ve been at Mainbrace for about three-and-a-half years now, I’m happy with my progress and where I’ve been.
“The biggest thing about my experience at Mainbrace is the people I’ve been able to learn from. Obviously, learning is up to the individual, just like it is at school or uni. It’s up to you to ask questions and expand your knowledge. But whenever you do ask anyone at Mainbrace for advice or to teach you how to do something, people are always happy to help.”
